Beaver Island, Michigan

Beaver Island, Michigan, "America's Emerald Isle", is the largest island in the Lake Michigan area. I have never been here, but this town was submitted to me by a reader and when I began to research it I immediately took a liking to it. This will definitely be on my family's list of places to see!

Beaver Island is only about thirteen miles long and six miles wide, and boasts a population of around 600. Making up part of Charlevoix County, Michigan, the island is a little over thirty miles from the city of Charlevoix on the mainland and is only accessible by boat or airplane.
There are two airways servicing the island with daily flights from Charlevoix, Fresh Air Aviation and Island Airways, or you can get to the island by ferry via the Beaver Island Boat Company.

The charm of this little island town is created by both its remoteness and its preserved history, a history that includes an Irish heritage still being embraced today. Carthage, Tennessee

Hometown of former Vice President, Al Gore, Carthage was where I spent my childhood summers.
My grandparents lived in Carthage, and my grandmother wrote a column for the local newspaper.

Carthage is located in Smith County, Tennessee and is about an hour's drive from Nashville. A historical town with a little over 2,000 residents, Carthage is still the same as I remember it as a child. My grandfather called everybody he met "Friend", and that seems to be the attitude of just about everyone in Carthage.
Carthage is such a peaceful and comforting place, with the gorgeous countryside views that are typical of Tennessee, and the beautiful Cordell Hull lake, a person visiting here might not ever want to leave. In fact, that is just what Smith County's Chamber of Commerce says on their website, "When you visit Smith County - you may never want to leave." I know I never wanted to be anywhere else when I was a child, and my husband and I plan on going back there someday to raise our little boy.
